Ancient Egypt will live inside me forever!

I was on my way to the mysterious land of the ancient Egypt Pyramids!!!

My son Vincent (20 years old) had already been in Cairo for 3 days, when I received this e mail: ‘Mom – I have been here in Cairo for a few days – I was on a felluca (small sail boat) today, on the Nile, alone with this old barefooted man, with not a tooth in his mouth. You would love it here, don’t you want to join me??’

It took me 2 days to organize my Egyptian visa, and make all the arrangements for travel insurance etc, and now I was on my way to this very ancient country, so excited – with no idea what Cairo would be like.

I arrived late, after 10 o’clock – the airport terminal was looking somehow deserted, but at the end of the passage 3 figures were waiting. My son, Vincent, with a small beard and a white galabiya (long white cotton dress). With him was his 2 friends, Mamoud and Mahamut. Amazing – that so many Egyptians are called by this name!! I was ecstatic to see my son – it had been 6 months since I last saw him.

We got into this black and white taxi (all of them are black and white), but this taxi had no suspension!! I felt every bump and hole in the road, it was amazing!

A few days later, these same guys took me to the amazing Ancient Pyramids of Egypt.
